Interop 2015: Finding the Right Tool for the Job

CBA 850 Router

As I walked into Interop this year, it was hard to miss the presence of the two networking colossuses, HP and Cisco. Both were here to strut their stuff to network administrators, IT engineers and directors, and maybe a CIO or two. Filled with beefy new products and features, they are the 600-pound gorillas in the tech industry. But for many companies that do business at the Edge, sometimes the over-featured “umbrella” solutions are too expensive and too cumbersome to deploy. These companies are looking for more flexible and nimble solutions that don’t gobble up IT staff time, or require outsized CapEx and OpEx.

One-Two Punch for Productivity

So it’s fitting that at this year’s Interop in Las Vegas we introduced the powerful combination of new products and services that can give distributed enterprises the tools they need to get the most out of their networking solutions. The new Cradlepoint ARC CBA850 and NetCloud Manager PRIME provide network administrators with a solution that both provides secure failover and extends management capability to any primary router Out-of-Band without a static IP.

Direct Access to the Command Line Interface

Suppose your primary network connection is a Cisco router. First of all, if the wired connection to that primary router is disrupted or fails, the Cradlepoint ARC CBA850 will failover within a matter of seconds seamlessly to a 3G/4G/LTE signal and keep your business connected. What happens if that primary router fails altogether or if it's not configured properly? With Cradlepoint's CBA850 and NetCloud Manager PRIME, you have the ability to manage this primary router with next generation Out-of-Band Management (OOBM) – through the cloud. Most primary routers are typically managed through a Command Line Interface (CLI). The CBA850 is purpose-built for OOBM through a console port and an RJ45 rollover cable that right out of the box plugs directly into the Cisco. A network administrator can then go into NetCloud Manager PRIME, select the router, find the console port, and access the CLI. It's as simple as that.

Optimizing Your Network Solution—and IT Appreciation

A solution that allows for secure, remote OOBM to a primary router’s console port is a clear value-added layer to any distributed enterprise. By providing a secondary secure failover path to devices at remote locations when the primary network goes down, the Cradlepoint solution also delivers “four-nines” network reliability. The combination of the two capabilities means less disruption and downtime, fewer expensive truck rolls, no need for onsite technical staff and, last but far from least, a happy staff that understands and appreciates its IT department.

Intelligent, Right-Scaled Solutions

Cradlepoint is sharply focused on providing solutions that address the real needs of distributed enterprises. While those big gorillas have a lot of muscle power, we understand just what kind of power you need at the Edge, and how to apply it in the smartest, most efficient way.
