Svitzer wanted to enable a new era of modern digital operations and standardised ship-to-shore communications for all its vessels; managing the entire distributed global fleet network from one central location.

AGENCY NEEDS & SOLUTIONS
Managing a fleet of tugs around the world is a challenge, especially if every country around the world has a different implementation of 3G/4G/ LTE and ship-to-shore WiFi. Svitzer wanted to standardise the IT on its global tugboat fleet, implementing cloud connectivity, satellite connections, failover capabilities, and ship- to-shore connectivity so it could manage the entire fleet from a single, central management dashboard. This would enable Svitzer to switch on 21st century digital operations, eliminate paper-based reporting, and enable real-time updates and access to critical documentation such as health and safety manuals. Determined to find a cloud-managed product capable of supporting its global fleet, the Svitzer IT team had struggled to find a solution that met all its requirements. So when Khurram Inam, Svitzer’s Regional IT Manager for Europe, suggested that Cradlepoint’s COR Series networking solution might deliver the mission- critical connectivity needed, a comprehensive test trial was undertaken in Europe to determine how well it would cope with the deployment and operational challenges of a marine environment. Engineered to protect against extreme temperatures, humidity, vibrations, water splash, and transient voltage, Cradlepoint’s ruggedised solution proved more than capable of surviving the tough working conditions Svitzer’s tugboats encounter.
