AUSTIN, Texas – May 14, 2018 – Cradlepoint, the global leader in cloud-delivered, edge solutions for 4G/5G-enabled networks, today launched a new ‘Pathway to 5G Workshop’ program at 5G North Americas, to help chief information officers (CIOs) and senior information technology (IT) leaders within enterprise and government organizations prepare for a wireless WAN future spurred by emerging Gigabit LTE and 5G services. 5G is one of the most anticipated and transformative technologies of the 21st century, and is expected to drive a wave of innovative network-enabled applications and services in markets such as retail, healthcare, public safety, and transportation.
With 10 times the speed of today’s 4G LTE network connections and latencies in the sub-10 milliseconds range, 5G is expected to unlock the potential of many new consumer and business applications, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), ultra-high definition video collaboration, remote-controlled robotics, telemedicine, autonomous driving, virtual reality and augmented reality. These new applications have broad implications for generating new products and services, increasing productivity, reaching underserved markets, and improving quality of life.
In recent months, there have been a spate of announcements from major wireless carriers, and even several cable providers, in the U.S. and around the world on their plans to roll-out advanced 4G LTE and 5G services starting in 2018. These new services promise to deliver fixed wireless access, gigabit speeds, low-latencies, and attractive data plans that will enable them to compete with many of today’s wireline offerings.
“While major carriers like AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and Orange Telecom plan for incremental rollouts in the next 12 months, final specifications for 5G have yet to be solidified,” said Brian Partridge, Research Vice President at 451 Research. “So there is still much we still don’t know about the effect it will have on business networks and customer solutions. One thing for sure is 5G will radically change technologies and business models across the mobile telecommunications industry and play a defining role in the global evolution of IT.”
Cradlepoint’s ‘Pathway to 5G Workshop’ will be free-of-charge for the first six months of the program. It is a personalized, half-day consulting engagement designed to help CIOs and senior IT leaders within enterprise and government organizations understand the implications of advanced 4G LTE and 5G services on their current and next-generation WAN strategies. It will educate leaders on the underlying wireless spectrum and technologies that provide the foundation for these new services, as well as the published rolled-out plans for major carriers—including upcoming 5G market launches. Additionally, the workshop will provide leaders with insights and recommendations on how they can advantage of today’s 4G LTE services to better support their cloud, mobile, and IoT initiatives today, and how to best leverage advanced LTE and 5G wireless services into their next-generation, software-defined WAN strategies.
The workshop is designed by Lindsay Notwell, senior vice president of 5G strategy and global carrier operations at Cradlepoint, and previously the executive director of 4G LTE planning and strategy at Verizon Wireless. Mr. Notwell has extensive experience in 4G and 5G wireless technologies and works closely with Cradlepoint’s carrier partners around the world.
"It’s important to evaluate emerging advanced LTE and 5G services now to understand the impact they will have on critical IT strategies and initiatives,” said Notwell. “The 5G revolution has the potential to disrupt how businesses provide products and services to their customers and even how governments interact with their citizens. To remain competitive in the digital transformation era, and ensure that technology investments made now will transition into the 5G era, organizations need to take a fresh look at their WAN strategy and technology roadmaps. Cradlepoint’s new ‘Pathway to 5G Workshop’ is designed to assist businesses with this effort and prepare IT leaders with pivotal questions they should be asking their wireless carriers.”
Cradlepoint launch the new workshop program as this week’s 5G North Americas event in Austin, TX, where the company is sponsoring a panel discussion that coincides with the event to explore the emerging opportunities for advanced gigabit LTE and 5G services within the enterprise wide-area network (WAN) market. The panel includes distinguished experts on advanced 4G and 5G cellular technologies from Cradlepoint, Ericsson, AT&T, Intel and Telit, as well as innovative mobile healthcare provider Visio Health. The panel discussion, hosted by RCR Wireless, will take place at Stubbs BBQ in Austin, Texas, at 5:00 pm CDT on May 14, immediately following the first day of the 5G Americas and Big Communications event, which are co-held at the Austin Convention Center from May 14 – 16, 2018.
